Not Lost, Just Taking 275 Miles of Scenic Route Each Year!
A recent survey has found that the average UK male drives an extra 275 miles per year because they are lost but refuse to ask for directions. If they were going to ask directions then one third would rather ask a woman, if they were going to ask at all. It seems that asking a woman would be a good strategy as 40% of men have pretended to know where they were going while lost compared to 26% of women.
On the other hand, three quarters of women have no problem with asking for directions. Adding to the fascinating insight into the male mind, 40% of them wouldn’t necessarily believe the directions they received if they did ever ask the way! A quarter of the men surveyed would choose to drive around lost for thirty minutes before asking someone else the way and 12% would never, ever ask a stranger for help at all. The aversion to looking for help is a waste of fuel, time and money, the average man would loose £2000 worth of petrol in his lifetime, then there’s the time and stress wasted both on the driver and vehicle.Short term car insurance wouldn’t necessarily help but it might focus the mind, “I’ve got to get home before my temporary insurance expires!”
Poorly Adjusted Seats Can Render Safety Equipment Useless, Osteopaths Warn
As well as being encouraged to take out temporary car insurance Drivers are being warned to wear their seatbelts properly as 13% of drivers have been found to wear their belts so incorrectly they would be rendered useless. The British Osteopathic Association has discovered many drivers are sitting with their seat put into such a recline and sitting so far back that in the event of an accident they would simply slide under their belt. Drivers are encouraged to ensure they are wearing the belt above the hip bone and that the strap is in contact with their shoulder to prevent neck injuries. Some drivers choose not to wear safety belts at all, 20% say that they don’t wear a belt with every single trip while another 14% sit so close to the steering wheel that they would be injured by its deployment in the event of a crash. Everyone knows that not wearing a seat belt is dangerous, people tend not to realise that how they put it on and how they sit in the car can have such a detriment on the efficiency of the belt. If you are injured in an accident so long as you’re insured, even if it’s, it will make a huge difference.
